Draft: details marked "Being finalised during pilot" are still being finalised and will be filled in before EduBell takes payments.
Last updated: 7 October 2026. This policy explains how Being finalised during pilot ("EduBell", "we") handles personal data as a Data Fiduciary under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act).
1. What we collect
- Account: name, email, role (teacher or student), password (stored by our authentication provider, never by us in plain text) or your Google sign-in.
- Profile you choose to add: photo, institute, subjects, exam and class, a public teacher profile if you switch it on.
- Learning activity: tests taken, answers, scores, practice results, written assignment submissions and files, notes.
- Teaching content: questions, banks, tests, notes and uploaded PDFs.
- AI use: messages you send to the AI tutor or helper, and a count of AI use for plan limits. If you add your own AI key it is stored encrypted and never shown again.
- Payments: plan, order and payment references from Razorpay. We never see or store card or UPI details.
- Technical: IP address (for security and rate limiting) and essential cookies to keep you signed in. We do not use advertising trackers.
2. Why we use it (purposes)
To run your account and classes, deliver and grade tests and assignments, show progress to you and your teacher, provide AI help you ask for, keep the service secure, process payments, and respond to you. We do not sell personal data and do not use it for targeted advertising.
3. Consent and children
We process your data with your consent, which you give when you sign up, and you can withdraw it at any time by deleting your account (see section 6). For a user under 18, the DPDP Act requires verifiable consent from a parent or lawful guardian: during sign-up a student under 18 must give a parent's or guardian's email and confirm the parent or guardian agrees. We may contact the parent or guardian to confirm. We do not track children's behaviour for advertising or profile them for marketing, and students below Class 11 cannot add their own third-party AI keys.
4. Who can see your data
- Your teacher sees the work you submit in their classes and your results on their tests.
- An institute owner sees class-level summaries for teachers in that institute, not individual answers.
- Other students never see your answers or scores.
- Service providers (Data Processors) who run EduBell for us under contract: Supabase (database, sign-in and file storage), Vercel (hosting), Google Gemini, Anthropic and OpenAI (AI features, only for the text you send to them), Razorpay (payments).
5. Storage, retention and security
Data is encrypted in transit; student submissions are kept in private storage reachable only through short-lived links. We keep account data while your account is active and delete it within 30 days of account deletion, except records we must keep by law (for example payment records).
6. Your rights
Under the DPDP Act you can ask to access a summary of your data, correct or update it, erase it, nominate someone to exercise your rights if you die or become incapable, and raise a grievance. To do this, use the contact form (choose "Privacy or my data") or write to our Grievance Officer. We respond within the time the law requires.
